NECROMANDUS WERE THE GREAT 'VERTIGO BAND WHO NEVER WERE'. IN THE RECORD COLLECTOR ISSUE OF OCTOBER 2005, UNDER THE HEADLINE 'THE NEXT BLACK SABBATH?' THEY WERE CALLED A BAND WITH A 'GREAT IMAGE, HEAVY SOUND AND GREAT CONNECTIONS' 'A HOT UP-AND-COMING NEW BAND' THEIR DEBUT ALBUM WAS NEVER RELEASED, AND THE BAND WERE CONSIGNED TO HISTORY.

ON THE 30th MARCH, 1973, THEIR AGENT, NORMAN HOOD, WENT WITH THEM TO A GIG AT THE CASINO CLUB IN BLACKPOOL, AND STUCK AN ORDINARY CASSETTE RECORDER UNDER HIS CHAIR TO TAPE THE GIG. THE RESULTANT RECORDING WAS STORED AWAY IN HIS LOFT FOR THE NEXT 32 YEARS, UNTIL IN EARLY 2005 AUDIO ARCHIVES BOSS PETE SARFAS HEARD ABOUT IT. THE QUALITY OF THE TAPE SURPRISED EVERYONE, AND WAS SO GOOD THAT WITH A LITTLE TWEAKING IT HAS PRODUCED THAT RAREST OF COMMODITIES - A TRUE LIVE RECORDING OF ONE OF HISTORYS FORGOTTEN GIANTS.

PESTER YOUR RECORD STORE - THIS NEEDS TO BE HEARD....AND LISTEN OUT FOR LEGENDARY SINGER, THE LATE BILL BRANCH, CALLING OUT TO NORMAN DURING THE SET!

HENRYS BLUESHOUSE

HENRYS WAS THE PREMIER BLUES CLUB IN BIRMINGHAM FOR MANY YEARS, PLAYING HOST TO MOST OF THE PROGRESSIVE ROCK AND BLUES BANDS ON THE CIRCUIT. THERE ARE NOT MANY PHOTOGRAPHS AROUND FROM THOSE DAYS (ALTHOUGH THE FLYING HAT BAND SHOTS ON THIS PAGE WERE TAKEN AT HENRYS) BUT I DID SNAP A FEW OF THE BLUESMEN THAT VISITED...

LEGENDARY BLUESMAN REVEREND GARY DAVIS AT HENRYS, SUPPORTED BY STEVE RYE (EX-GROUNDHOGS) ON HARMONICA. SIMON PRAGER AND STEVE RYE ALSO DID A SET. VIEW1......VIEW2

THE GREAT CHAMPION JACK DUPREE WAS A WONDERFUL SHOWMAN ......VIEW.....(INCIDENTALLY, THE GUY PEERING OUT FROM BENEATH A CYMBAL ON THE BOTTOM LEFT HAND PHOTO IS THE LEGENDARY JIM SIMPSON)
